Once Upon A Time…
“Don’t put any of that fairy tale shit in the next round of Royal Invitations.” Princess Cadence of the New West Dominion picked up a brush and attacked her russet locks as if she meant to pull the hair out by its roots. “I’m already the laughing stock of six Kingdoms because of the flowery language in the previous ones.”
“But your Highness, protocol must be followed when sending—”
“Henry,” she spun to face the Royal Messenger. “We’ve been friends a long time. You know I don’t give a fuck about protocol.”
A fierce blush stole over Henry’s cherubic features and Cadence rolled her eyes, turning to face the mirror again. “It’s bad enough I’m being pressured to choose just one lover, let alone to be told he must be a Prince.”
“Highness, your parents only wish you to be held in the same esteem as the other Princesses.”
Cadence eyed the young man, grateful to have a confidante she could trust. “It seems ridiculous for us to have survived near annihilation of the human race only to repeat the mistakes of the past. When the Councils were set up they agreed to forego such conventions. Now we’re going back to the old ways again and no one seems to care.”
Henry shrugged, his face twisting into a mask of confusion. “I don’t know about any of that, Highness.”
“No, of course you don’t. You’re only doing your job, right? Henry, this isn’t about me choosing one lover. They’re trying to force me to marry. Surely you know that.”
His quickly averted gaze answered her question.
“That’s why they’ve invited all these Princes to the castle. They think if they make me choose one as a lover I’ll stop playing around. They want me to get married and have babies.”
“Highness, your siblings have all married.”
“Which means there are plenty of heirs already.”
Henry’s gaze wandered to the flowered wallpaper, the gilt-edged tables, anywhere but Cadence’s face. Making him uncomfortable wouldn’t change her situation, and it wasn’t her intention this morning to upset her friend. “Bring the Invitations to me before sending them out. I want to proofread them. And don’t let my parents know I asked. It’ll be our secret.”
She winked and gave him her sexiest smile, but all he did was blush again before bowing. Returning to her hair, she watched his retreating form in the mirror. Why couldn’t the men her parents had invited to the castle the past few months look young and firm like Henry? Every one of them had been at least twice her age and didn’t look fit enough to bring themselves to a climax, let alone keep up with her in bed.
For that matter, why couldn’t her parents just let her carry on as before? She wasn’t harming anyone, and she was as discreet as possible in a castle where gossip was as much a sport as croquet or darts.
If her lover had to be a real Prince then so be it, but she wasn’t about to be saddled with a man who couldn't give what she wanted. A good hard fucking anytime she desired it seemed fair compensation for being forced to give herself to only one man. The Prince she chose would be dynamite in bed or she’d refuse to choose. What could they do to her, after all?
The sunlight streaming through the window caught a large piece of amber on her dresser. Picking it up, she admired the lattice pattern the glint cast on the wall. Gabriel, one of the Knights, had given it to her as a present on her eighteenth birthday. He explained it had been found near the sea and how unusual it was to find amber outside a forest. The insect inside was called a dragonfly, and none of the species were known to have survived The Crisis.
Cadence thought it was the most beautiful and enigmatic thing she’d ever seen, but then she’d been totally infatuated with Gabriel. He could have given her a rock and she would have cherished it.
Before the memories of Gabriel breaking her heart could ruin this beautiful morning, Cadence placed the amber back on her dresser and rose to pace the room. A soft breeze stirred the air as she crossed to the windows overlooking the back gardens. More birdsong filled the air this summer than last. The Royal Diviners said this was a sign that life was also returning to the seas, although Cadence had heard more than one Knight warn against too much optimism.
Cadence had never tasted fish, having been born after The Crisis, but the old ones who lived through it had passed down stories. Not only had fish lived in the seas, but great creatures with tentacles. She found their stories both terrifying and fascinating. The largest body of water she had ever seen was the nearby lake, small enough to see the opposite shore. It was difficult to imagine water that loomed past the horizon.
Standing next to the French doors that led to the balcony, she ran her hands along the delicate tulle curtains, enjoying the silky feel of the fabric. It reminded her of the linen shirts the Knights wore under their tunics. It was such fun when they visited the castle because occasionally she was able to sneak one into her bedchamber. But Knights never stayed very long in one place so she was often without lovers.
The sound of hedge clippers opening and closing caught her ear and she walked out onto the balcony to watch Ethan. He was almost directly below working on the topiary. Using a picture book one of the Knights had brought back from his travels, he was making her an entire zoo.
As she watched him work, the memory of him trying to climb up her trellis last month sent a thrill through her. One of the other servants had told her parents and they’d been so angry they threatened to send him away. Cadence reminded them Henry’s family had been in the service of the King and Queen for generations. Her parents were all about preserving tradition.
She longed to ask Ethan what he would do to her if he gained entry to her bedchamber. Would he kiss her and try to seduce her? Or would he just throw her on the bed and shove his cock inside her pussy and ass, fucking her mercilessly the way she craved to be taken?
Desire spread through her like fire as she watched the muscles in his arms flex with each cut he made. Hadn’t she heard once that he’d learned rappelling from his father? Surely someone who could climb rocks was strong enough to hold her down while he fucked her.
A quick glance around assured her no one could see her. Untying the laces on her bodice, she freed her breasts, taking one in each hand. Cadence teased her nipples, moaning softly as they grew into taut points. She closed her eyes and imagined Ethan’s hands on them, then his mouth.
The thought of fucking a muscled young man like Ethan for hours forced a loud moan from her. She moved her hand down her skirt, pulling it up to reach into her undergarments. They were already wet with her pussy juices. Moving both hands
from her nipples to her groin, she teased her slick labia until the desire was so strong she couldn’t stand it anymore. With one finger she stroked her clit, while the other hand moved to her soaking wet opening. One finger on her clit became two, rubbing and pushing, as she slid two fingers of the opposite hand inside.
Ethan’s face floated through her mind’s eye. She pictured his cock thick and red, pulsing with need as her entire body now did. When her orgasm came, it filled her with wave after wave of release and went on for long minutes.
Cadence gradually became aware that the sound of the hedge clippers had stopped. She blinked a few times, trying to focus her eyes and her thoughts. When she looked down, Ethan stared up at her, his mouth open and his hand rubbing the front of his breeches.
She smiled, straightened her clothing, and then blew him a kiss before retreating into her bedchamber.
A Man Journeyed To Meet A Princess…
Dominic topped a rise and stopped his horse’s cantor, smiling at the view below. The castle of King Lassiter and Queen Sasha of the New West Dominion rose up out of the desert like a shimmering mirage. The Royal Invitation sent to his deceased father last month was a mistake on more than one level. Not only had highway bandits killed his parents six months ago, but the people of the Northern Free Zone also didn’t give a fuck about the pseudo-medieval Kingdoms that had sprung up after The Crisis.
He’d spent enough time listening to the Knights’ tales of the old ones to know society had moved well beyond serfs and feudal lords by the time the sickness spread. These self-important shits thought they were restoring order and structure to the country, but Dominic knew their real aim –power and land. It was the same one that had been in existence before a virus gone rogue had nearly wiped out the human race.
But he wasn’t on his way to the castle for either. He responded to this Invitation for a different reason. The ink drawing he pulled out of his pocket was from a Knight with a hand for artistry and alleged first-hand experience in Cadence’s bed. As he studied her wild curls and heart-shaped face, he wondered why such a pretty girl would need help finding a husband. The Knight had told him she was untamed, rebellious, and had no desire to marry.
Either her parents were embarrassed by her behavior, or they were in trouble and needed an allegiance with another Kingdom. Why else would they send an Invitation to every Prince in the land, even making such a mistake as to send one to a dead man in a Free Zone?
Either scenario was fine with Dominic. He had no wish to marry, but he wasn’t about to pass up a chance to spend time with a pretty girl who, it was rumored, craved a good hard fucking from any man who could keep up with her sexual appetites.
Dominic inhaled deeply, savoring the crisp air and scent of lotus flowers. This journey was exactly what he needed. He was bored at home anyway. Too many citizens with nothing to do but bitch about the Free Zone Committee wanting to start charging coin for the use of electricity or the effrontery of their having appointed a task force to study the best place to dump trash.
He’d heard his neighbors speaking to other disgruntled citizens and the rumors of breaking off to start yet another Free Zone were becoming more widespread. How long before they were fighting among themselves over the land they now occupied? For all their scorn at the Kingdoms, they hadn’t yet figured out a way to govern themselves without arguing over every microscopic point. Hypocrites.
Dominic wanted no part of it and this Invitation was a perfect excuse to get away for a while. See one of these Kingdoms up and close and personal, as it were. If Cadence’s parents wanted to believe he was a Prince, so be it. Regal clothing was easy to come by. He’d dress the part, put on his best manners, and bide his time. Women usually threw themselves at him so he wasn’t apprehensive about seducing Cadence. He’d give her all the pussy pumping she could handle.
****
Cadence untied the decorative bows on her skirt for the tenth time in less than five minutes then tied them again, glancing at the clock. His Highness Prince Dominic was late, but that wasn’t why she felt so restless.
She’d spent every evening of the past week with a Prince from the Southern Kingdom of Arizona, listening to him talk about his deceased wife, how he’d never intended to re-marry, and how the lucky woman who lands him will need to be schooled in the medical arts because he has an arthritic condition, nasal allergies, and one other condition she couldn’t decipher.
Molly, her handmaid, had tried in vain to leave her alone with the Prince, but Cadence threatened her with bodily harm. During the day she hid in her room and feigned headaches, upset stomachs, even cramps from her cycle in an attempt to avoid spending more time than necessary with him. By the time he finally left to return to his Kingdom Cadence wondered if the water in Arizona was poisoned.
If Prince Dominic turned out to be like all the others, she was done. She’d stand up to her parents and lay down the law. No more visiting Princes or talk about taking only one lover.
She tapped the toe of her satin shoe against the parquet floor, causing Molly to turn and scowl. Let her disapprove. Cadence had been fidgety since finding a note from Ethan slipped under her door this morning. Glancing at Molly to make sure her gaze was once again glued to the door, Cadence reached inside her pocket and pulled out the note.
Ethan had scrawled it on parchment. He must have swiped it from the kitchens, because it was the same paper used for menus when her parents hosted formal dinners. She bit back a giggle as she read the flowery language that described her breasts as globes of delight on which dusky peaks of pleasure rested. The note went on to detail how he ached to rub his cock between her breasts until her pussy was so wet he’d slide right into her hollow of sweet nectar.
Cadence couldn’t wait to get rid of the latest Prince so she could figure out a way to sneak Ethan into her rooms. It had been two weeks since that morning on the balcony and Ethan had written in the note that he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about watching her.
Molly stiffened as voices reached their ears. Cadence stuffed the note into her pocket. Rising, she smoothed her skirt and patted her curls, making sure none of the pins had come loose. She preferred wearing her hair down but her parents said it wasn’t proper when receiving a male visitor.
When the door opened and the Major Domo announced Prince Dominic of the Northern Free Zone Kingdom, Cadence stifled a gasp at the sight of her visitor. This one wasn’t twice her age and he didn’t look like any of the Princes whose company she’d been forced to endure for the past three months.
The Major Domo backed out, closing the door behind him. Molly smiled behind Dominic’s back and for once Cadence had to agree with her. Finally, a man whose skin wasn’t pasty. He also wasn’t shorter than her or coughing up a lung. So far, so good.
“Your Highness,” she purred, dropping into a curtsy. Her palms were suddenly moist and a delicious tingling had started in her abdomen. As she raised her eyes and looked into his, dark blue and twinkling with amusement, the sensation slipped lower. Her clit throbbed when he smiled. The gesture lit up his rugged face, reminding her of a drawing she’d once seen. He must spend a great deal of time outdoors. His skin had the healthy glow of hard work and sunlight.
His gaze moved slowly over her face and hair, then down to her bodice, where it lingered far longer than would be considered acceptable if he weren’t royalty. She was seized with a compulsion to undo her laces and offer her dusky peaks, as Ethan had called them, to this man’s full lips.
“Lovely to meet you, Princess.” His voice was rough, complimenting his exterior. A shiver ran through Cadence as she imagined it in the dark, whispering, as he explored her body with his hands and tongue.
She stood still, fighting to control the trembling of her limbs. His attention traveled over her skirts and then finally up to her eyes, without the slightest trace of embarrassment or sense of impropriety. He was the boldest Prince she’d ever met.
Cadence extended her hand, admiring the muscles flexi
ng under his breeches as he strolled toward her. He gave the impression of being in no hurry to touch her, which only added to her arousal. She couldn’t help but stare at the bulge in his pants. When she snapped her gaze to his face, his grin had widened and light danced in his eyes. He had an aura that screamed confidence and raw sexuality, something Cadence had rarely found in a man, and she found herself unable to look away.
Breathing was difficult by the time he took her hand and brushed the back of it with his lips. The touch sent a tremor through her arm, down her spine, and straight to her soaking wet pussy. His cologne, musky and dark, wafted past her nose, enhancing the image of him as a rough, seductive man.
He released her hand and brushed back a stray lock of ash blond hair that had escaped the fabric. She wanted to untie the piece of silk holding his hair and let his mane spill over his shoulders. That’s what he reminded her of – a lion. Would he take her as a lion would, with animalistic raw lust? Or did he prefer to take his time, prolonging the sweet torture?
“I’ve heard so much about you, Princess.”
Had he now? Interesting. “Please, Sir, call me Cadence.”
It was a bold request and one that prompted a gasp from Molly.
“Cadence, tell me what you like to do with your time.”
She took a seat on the sofa because her knees were about to buckle, hoping he’d sit next to her. He had more conventionality in him than his appearance conveyed because he took the seat across from her. She leaned forward, giving him a nice view of her cleavage. “I ride horses, take walks in the gardens, sew a little. The usual things.”
